Introducing the Central East ICB
Exciting changes are on the horizon for health and care across our region. Three Integrated Care Boards (Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, Hertfordshire & West Essex) are working towards forming the new Central East ICB in 2026.

What’s Changing?
- West Essex will join the proposed Essex ICB.
- Goal: better health and wellbeing for 3+ million people, tackling inequalities and delivering value for taxpayers.
Progress So Far
- NHS England requires ICBs to cut running costs by 50% by end of 2025/26.
- Staff consultation on new structures runs until mid-January; appointments expected by March 2026.
- Robin Porter appointed Chair of all three ICBs; single leadership team now in place.
- Strategic Commissioning Intentions agreed, setting shared priorities.
Local Success Stories
- West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust: Won NHS ‘Trust of the Year’ and ‘Performance Recovery’ at HSJ Awards.
- Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust: Awarded for ‘FOLLOW’ initiative supporting children’s communication skills.
