Significant changes are underway across the NHS landscape, with the government announcing the formation of seven new Integrated Care Board (ICB) footprints effective from spring 2026. These changes mark the beginning of a broader transformation, with many ICBs expected to merge in future phases.

Locally, the new Central East ICB will bring together Cambridge and Peterborough, Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes, and Hertfordshire (previously part of Hertfordshire and West Essex). This reconfiguration aims to streamline regional planning and improve service integration.

While these structural shifts are being formalised, responsibilities will continue to evolve between the newly formed ICBs and place-based partnerships. These partnerships will play a critical role in shaping local health and care delivery, with a growing emphasis on collaboration and shared accountability.

HCPA remains committed to working closely with local colleagues to understand the implications of these changes for care providers and those they support. We will continue to monitor developments and provide timely updates to ensure providers are informed and prepared.
