The UK government’s latest Cyber Security Breaches Survey (April 2025) reveals that cyber threats remain a significant risk for all organisations, including health and social care.
The survey shows that 43% of UK businesses, including 41% of health or care organisations, reported cyber security breaches or attacks.
Disruptive cyber-attacks have increased, emphasising the need for care providers to strengthen their cyber security and regularly assess risks using tools like the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT).
- Key findings include a rise in breaches that disrupt operations, such as losing access to files or systems.
- Phishing remains the most common threat, affecting 85% of businesses. Costs averaged between £3,500 and £8,000
- The Adult Social Care sector now leads in incident response, with 66% having an incident response plan, compared to 23% of businesses overall.
