We’re pleased to share updates to the HCPA Champion Programme, aimed at improving access, clarity, and the overall experience for both learners and their managers.

New Application and Course Access Process

The core structure of the Champion courses remains the same—delivered across four days—but the way staff are nominated and enrolled has now been streamlined.

We’ve launched a dedicated Champion section on the HCPA website, which includes:

  • A clear overview of the Champion role and expectations
  • Guidance on the support managers must provide
  • Access to the new online application form

Visit the Champion Programme page here
Access the application form directly here

Managers must now complete the application form to nominate staff members. This can be submitted multiple times for different people or topics. Once reviewed and approved by HCPA’s admin and education teams, a booking link will be emailed to the manager, who is responsible for registering the nominated staff member onto an available cohort.

Champion Course Structure – What to Expect

The four-day Champion course remains comprehensive and practical, covering:

  • How to implement a governance process
  • Tools to lead service improvements
  • Support to develop a tailored, realistic action plan

The action plan is a critical outcome of the course and should be discussed with the manager in advance. Champions will finalise their plan during the course and begin working on it over the following 12–18 months.

Updated Revalidation Process

Champions will now revalidate every two years rather than annually.

Revalidation involves completing a new online form (sent by HCPA), which includes:

  • A reflection on the original action plan
  • A case study demonstrating impact
  • A CPD log and updated two-year plan

Once reviewed, Champions will receive updated materials and continued support for their role.

New Extended Knowledge Courses

For staff who want to deepen their knowledge without taking on a Champion governance role, we’re launching 2–3-day extended knowledge courses. These provide valuable CPD and flexibility across key areas, including:

  • Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
  • Mental Health
  • Dementia
  • Safeguarding
  • Mental Capacity
  • Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), and more

Multiple cohorts will run throughout the year, offering development opportunities at all levels.
