Do you know someone who consistently goes the extra step to support a person with a Learning Disability?

The PURPLE SUPER STAR award recognises individuals who make a meaningful difference to access to healthcare. This could include a paid carer, day service staff member, social care practitioner, or health professional who has supported someone to receive care they may not otherwise have accessed.

People with a learning disability still die, on average, 19.5 years earlier than the general population, with nearly half of these deaths considered avoidable. Small, practical actions can have a significant impact on improving access, engagement, and outcomes.

Previous nominations have included individuals who have:

  • Encouraged attendance at an annual health check by making the process accessible and engaging, such as using a football to build rapport
  • Taken proactive action by personally transporting someone to a GP appointment following a recognised health concern
  • Used creative approaches, including music, dance, and familiar environments, to support someone to complete a blood test

It’s not just the big things … it’s those little things too that really make a difference.

To submit a nomination, please email Sarah.Sullivan@hertfordshire.gov.uk by 2nd June 2026 with:

  • The name of the nominated individual
  • Their role
  • A brief description of what they did

Nominations do not need to be lengthy. Clear, specific examples of impact are sufficient.
