Care Providers are being warned about a scam involving individuals impersonating inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). These fraudsters are contacting care providers by phone, claiming to be from the CQC, and requesting sensitive information including CQC registration IDs, personal details of managers, and banking information. The aim is to deceive staff and steal money from individuals or organisations.

  • Authorities have confirmed that these scams are currently active in the area, and care homes are urged to remain vigilant.
  • The CQC has stated that genuine inspectors will never ask for banking details over the phone and will not request information they already hold, such as registered manager names.
  • If any doubt – Providers should verify the caller’s identity by calling the CQC enquiries team directly at 03000 616161.
  • To protect against fraud, care providers should refer to official CQC guidance on how to check the identity of a CQC inspector.
  • Any suspicious contact should be reported immediately to ensure the safety of residents and staff.
