Recent tragic events at Grenfell Tower have put fire safety at the forefront of everyone’s minds, and Adult Care Services at HCC want to make sure that all Herts care providers know the latest information, and are fully compliant with the latest legislation and obligations, to help stop tragic, and avoidable, fires taking vulnerable people’s lives.
HCPA, HCC and Herts Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) are working together to deliver FREE Fire Safety Workshops tailored to the home care and residential care setting. Over the next few weeks there will be 3 workshops available for you to choose from, completely free of charge.

The Residential Care Fire Safety workshops and sessions will cover:
- An outline of fire safety legislation and requirements of care providers
- The steps care providers should take to ensure compliance with legislation
- Fire Risk Assessments
- Understanding the roles of the “competent persons” – carrying out due diligence
- Sharing of useful tools and resources to ensure as providers you are fully aware of your legal responsibilities in relation to fire safety
- Evacuation strategies
- An opportunity for questions and discussion
The Homecare Fire Safety workshops and sessions will cover:
- The Fire Death Report 2000-2017 – some brief statistics.
- Exploring the prevalent risk permutations associated with fire deaths.
- What can we do to help prevent these fire deaths?
- What is a Safe & Well visit?
- Caring Together – details of a free fire safety awareness training session to help front line staff identify those at particular risk and to have an understanding of what intervention HFRS can provide.
- The referral pathway.
All attendees will receive certificates from these workshops that they can show to inspectors and monitoring officers, and a learning toolkit on fire safety which can be delivered to your staff.
