In light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and its potential impact on global fuel markets, we are encouraging all social care providers, particularly homecare organisations, to review the fuel shortage section of their Business Continuity Plans (BCPs).
There is currently no confirmed fuel shortage in the UK, however international instability may lead to price increases or supply pressures over the coming months. Taking a proactive approach now will help ensure services remain resilient and that essential care continues without disruption.
What Providers Should Do
- Review your BCP, focusing specifically on the fuel shortage and transport disruption sections
- Check staff travel planning, including car‑sharing options, alternative routes, or locally based contingency staff
- Confirm prioritisation plans for essential visits should travel become more challenging
- Update contact lists for staff and partner organisations to ensure communication remains smooth during any disruption
- Revisit supplier arrangements, including any agreements with local fuel stations or emergency suppliers
