Providing high-quality care starts with understanding the individual needs of the people you support. For people living with respiratory or neurological conditions, knowledgeable and confident staff can make a significant difference to their health, wellbeing, independence and quality of life.
Respiratory conditions such as COPD, asthma and recurrent chest infections can have a major impact on day-to-day life. Staff need to be able to recognise signs of deterioration, support people who are breathless, understand when concerns need escalating and help reduce avoidable hospital admissions.
Equally, people living with neurological conditions, including Parkinson’s disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease and traumatic brain injury, often require highly personalised support that adapts to their changing needs.
To help strengthen knowledge and practice across the sector, HCPA has expanded its education offer with new Extended Knowledge programmes focused on both respiratory and neurological conditions. These sessions provide care staff with a deeper understanding of the conditions they are supporting, practical approaches to care delivery and resources that can improve outcomes for people drawing on care and support.
