Unlock Inclusive Activity Opportunities for People with Disabilities in Hertfordshire

Supporting people to live active, healthy and fulfilling lives is an important part of person-centred care. For providers supporting people with disabilities, there is a wealth of activity, sport and wellbeing opportunities available across Hertfordshire – and a recent webinar has highlighted just how valuable the role of support workers can be in helping people access them.

The Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership (HSP) recently hosted a webinar for Hertfordshire’s social care workforce, bringing together national expertise, local organisations and lived experience to help support workers feel more confident in promoting physical activity for people with disabilities. The session explored why physical activity matters, the positive impact it can have on physical, social and mental wellbeing, and how support workers can help people access inclusive opportunities in their local communities.

The webinar featured contributions from Activity Alliance, Sense and Disability Rights UK, alongside local organisations including Herts Tennis Foundation, Herts Disability Sports Foundation, Hertfordshire County Council Children’s Services, and the Moving More Activity Finder, showcasing the wide range of inclusive activities available across the county.

Why this matters for Care Providers?

As care providers, you are often the key link between the people you support and opportunities in the community. Whether you work in residential care, supported living or homecare, helping individuals access inclusive activities can improve wellbeing, reduce isolation, build confidence and support greater independence.

There is a huge amount available across Hertfordshire, and we encourage providers to explore the resources, activity finders and local organisations highlighted in this webinar to help people with disabilities live active and connected lives.

Together, we can help ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate, belong and thrive in their community.
