The CQC’s review of the Mental Health Act Code of practice has found that the Code is still not being used as intended.

The CQC looked for the useful things that services have found when they use the guidance as well as the barriers. They also looked at what impact these things have had on people’s experience of detention, care, and treatment.

They found that:

  • Providers lacked understanding about how to use and promote the Code’s guiding principles
  • Providers did not support staff well enough
  • Local areas should work together better to make sure that people receive the right care
