In June this year NICE published a guideline for diagnosing and managing dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, to help improve care with recommendations for staff training and other support for care staff.

If your service provides support for people living with dementia we urge you to visit the NICE website to download and read the guideline as it is full of relevant and useful information, including recommendations on:

  • Involving people living with dementia in decisions about their care
  • Assessment and diagnosis
  • Interventions to promote cognition, independence and wellbeing
  • Pharmacological interventions
  • Managing non-cognitive symptoms
  • Supporting carers
  • Staff training and education
