Slings are used in conjunction with hoists and should be carefully matched to the specific type and make of hoist, as well as to the individual’s size and specific needs.
Different loops can be used to facilitate different positions for the person. The general rule of thumb is ‘short shoulders, long legs’ to facilitate a sitting position, however as each person is different, a Sling Management Plan should be in place for each individual for each manoeuvre, so that care staff are clear on what sling to use and which loops to use for each manoeuvre.

Full Body Sling: Suitable for individuals with poor core strength who need full support.

Convenience/Toileting Sling: Designed for those with good core stability, with a large aperture to allow easier access for toileting.
These slings offer slightly less support and are generally quicker to apply.
