Half day course at HCPA Campus
This session will support care staff to confidently make safe, informed decisions regarding the use of bed rails and bed levers in line with MHRA guidance and best practice principles. Participants will develop an understanding of the risks associated with these items of equipment, how to complete and review bed rail risk assessments, and how to ensure decisions remain person-centred and proportionate to the individual’s needs. The session will also help staff identify situations where equipment may no longer be appropriate, where risks have changed, and when further review or referral may be required.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Explain the key risks associated with bed rails and bed levers.
- Follow the Bed Rail Risk Management Guide and accurately complete a bed rail risk assessment for residents in their care.
- Apply person-centred thinking when making decisions about the use of bed rails and bed levers.
Identify when bed rails or bed levers are no longer necessary, when risks have changed, and when reassessment is required. - Recognise and respond appropriately to risks associated with existing bed rail provision, including when further review or referral may be needed.
