This course explores best practice in dementia care, challenges common myths, and supports services to respond effectively to changing needs. It focuses on person centred approaches, proactive practice, and building confident, skilled staff who can deliver high quality, future ready dementia care.
Participants will review how dementia care has evolved, why future proofing service delivery is essential, and how positive behavioural support can be embedded into everyday practice. The course also strengthens practical skills and understanding in key areas of dementia care to support consistent, safe, and high quality outcomes.
Entry Requirements: Learners should be part of management teams in their service.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
• Identify common myths in dementia care and explain how to challenge them in practice
• Understand how dementia care is changing and what services can do to future proof their approach
• Explain person centred care and why it is important for staff, people who use services, commissioners, and regulators
• Understand the value of a proactive approach and how to embed positive behavioural support
• Demonstrate increased knowledge of specific skills in dementia care, including:
– Therapeutic observation including one to one support
– Use of ABC charts
– Spotting deterioration
– Good practice in documentation
• Explain the importance of staff training in dementia care and how to access available training and development opportunities
