The number of people requiring bed care appears to have risen since the pandemic leading to a variety of challenges for both clients and care providers. This course aims to provide knowledge on the decision-making process for individuals at risk of receiving permanent bed care. Providers will also be made aware of the latest guidance to confidently navigate decisions about the use of bed rails and bed levers, in line with MHRA guidance and best practice principles. The training will cover when equipment is necessary, how to complete risk assessments effectively, and how to ensure decisions are always safe and person-centred.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Explain the key factors and decision-making processes around permanent bed care.
• Identify barriers and strategies to improve the experience of people receiving bed care.
• Apply current guidance on bed rails, bed levers and equipment use using MHRA guidance.
• Complete and document effective, person-centred risk assessments for people receiving bed care.
• Promote prevention, engagement and supportive approaches for individuals on bed care.
