Frailty is a long-term condition which is related to the ageing process, and where the systems of the body systems begin to gradually lose their in-built reserves (Skills for Health, 2018). The person with frailty presents with reduced resilience and increased vulnerability, which may lead to a sudden or dramatic deterioration in their health or a decline in their ability to live or manage independently, when there is a relatively minor change in their circumstances, as they are less able to cope with the physical or emotional stress of the situation. These seemingly small changes could be a minor infection, a change in medication, a change in environment or in personal or social circumstances.
