Managing a Person who has Fallen in a Care Home
Services available to you when someone has fallen in your care homes. As you know residents have much better outcomes if they don’t have admissions to hospital or long lies while waiting for an ambulance. Hertfordshire does have brilliant Prevention of Admission services available to all care homes, which you can utilise when someone has fallen, and they are not displaying red flags.

Dial NHS 111 Star*6 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) for faster access to urgent advice from a senior clinician as well as access to Early Intervention Vehicle (for care homes).
Below are the steps to take when using this service:
Here are the reasons why you should be calling 111*6:
- To access the Early Intervention Vehicle
- For advice and interventions for falls
- Minor injuries including wounds/cuts
- Shortness of breath / feels faint
- UTIs
- Hypertension
- Support for residents who are in crisis and at risk of a hospital admission
- For health and interventions from any of the following: GP, Palliative Care Nurse, Mental Health Nurse, Pharmacist and Dentist
