In response to the recently issued National Patient Safety Alert, all care home providers are reminded of their obligation to ensure that thorough and person-centred risk assessments are carried out when deciding whether bed rails are appropriate for individual residents. The alert emphasises the need to manage the risks associated with both the use and omission of bed rails in residential care settings.
