This course will give the learner a broad overview of the importance of maintaining good skin integrity for residents in the care setting. Prevention of skin damage, identification of skin breakdown and implementation of strategies to care for vulnerable skin.

Learning objectives:
• Understand your role in maintaining skin integrity
• Gain knowledge in Anatomy & Physiology of the skin
• Learn about pressure ulcer prevention strategies using ‘Great Skin’ resources applying to surface, skin inspection, keeping residents moving, continence management and good nutrition
• Gain skills and knowledge in identification of pressure damage and responding to skin breakdown
• Understand how moisture can affect skin integrity and how to implement strategies for prevention of incontinence associated skin damage
• Develop your role in prevention and identification of skin tears and conditions affecting the lower limb
• Understand the signs of early recognition of infection, the importance of timely escalation
