This course provides learners with the knowledge and understanding required to support medication safely, confidently, and in a person-centred way. It explores the principles of safe medication practice, helping staff understand their responsibilities, promote independence, reduce the risk of medication errors, and contribute to positive health and wellbeing outcomes for the people they support.
Learning objectives:
• Outline how to prepare for the safe administration of medication and provide person-centred medication support.
• Identify why people take medication and how to support informed decision-making in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
• Describe the importance of maintaining accurate, relevant and timely medication records and knowing when to seek guidance.
• List the infection prevention and control measures required for safe medication management.
• Explain how to support self-administration and monitor the effectiveness and impact of medication.
