This one-day Diabetes Awareness course provides learners with the knowledge and confidence to support individuals living with diabetes safely and effectively. The course explores the different types of diabetes, common signs and symptoms, diabetic emergencies, treatment options, and the role of lifestyle in diabetes management. Learners will also examine person-centred approaches to care, blood glucose monitoring, risk assessment, dietary considerations, and the prevention and management of diabetes-related complications. Ideal for health and social care staff supporting people with diabetes in a variety of care settings.
Learning objectives:
• Identify diabetes types and risk factors
• Describe signs and symptoms of diabetes
• Identify diabetic emergencies and how to respond to them
• Identify a range of management options including lifestyle
• State the differences between hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia
• Examine the links between diabetes and other conditions
• Explain why person-centred care and risk assessment are essential to good diabetes management
• Describe how to work safely when monitoring individuals with diabetes
• Describe the different dietary needs of a diabetic service user who is overweight, underweight or at the end of life
• List the different medical treatments for diabetes

Bookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.
