One day course at HCPA Campus
This course will introduce the foundations of a healthy and balanced diet for the people you support, helping them to eat, drink and age well. It explores the importance of enjoyable mealtimes by creating a positive eating environment and developing suitable meal plans.
The course focuses on supporting people to maintain a healthy weight and access a nutrient rich diet. It also explains the importance of accurate nutritional screening using the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) to identify and respond to those at risk of malnutrition and dehydration.
Entry Requirements – Learners must have completed Care Induction.
Learning Objectives
• Explain the benefits of a nutrient rich diet for the people you support
• Identify individuals at risk of malnutrition using the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST)
• Develop and apply person-centred nutritional care plans in line with Integrated Care Board guidance
• Provide appropriate food based support and understand the use of oral nutritional supplements in care homes
• Recognise and respond to eating and drinking difficulties, including those related to dementia and other conditions
