The following guidance has been sent to us to circulate by the Public Health Service at Hertfordshire County Council. Please circulate this message.
The illness seems to be most severe in those who are elderly and/or have pre-existing conditions and illnesses. This means that most people are likely to have severe flu symptoms but people who are elderly with weakened immune systems, or pre-existing serious health issues, may have more severe disease. This means protecting them from infection becomes the key priority.
The death rate is around 2.8%, which is not as high as media reports suggest.
