Qualifications play an important role in learning and development and are available for Care professionals at various levels and size dependant on their role, assessed against expected knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Level 2 Diploma in Care

For Care professionals to develop once completing the Care Certificate.

The Level 2 Diploma in Care qualification supports learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of adult care environments.

The qualification is formed of mandatory units covering core competencies, and optional units allowing learners to tailor their qualification to reflect the context of their work.
It covers a wide range of areas including dementia awareness, mental health and well-being, supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and healthcare procedures.

How long will it take to complete this qualification?
Learners can usually complete the qualification within 6-9 months.

What are the entry requirements?
Learners should be working in an adult care setting to be able to show competence in both knowledge and skills
Learners should have completed the Care Certificate
Learners should have a good understanding of the English language

How many credits are required to complete it?
Learners must achieve a minimum of 46 credits to gain this qualification, 24 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 22 credits from the optional units

How is it assessed?
All units are assessed by an Assessor using a portfolio of evidence.

What progression opportunities are there?
Upon completion, learners could progress their career into a more senior role or take on higher responsibilities.
Learners could progress and undertake the Level 3 Diploma in Adults Care

Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care

For experienced Care professionals in a Senior position or enhanced responsibilities, a natural progression after achieving the Level 2 Diploma in Care.

The Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed when working in care settings.

The qualification is formed of mandatory units covering core competencies, and optional units allowing learners to tailor their qualification to reflect the context of their work.

How long will it take to complete this qualification?
Learners can usually complete the qualification within 9-12 months.

What are the entry requirements?
Learners should be working in an adult care setting to be able to show competence in both knowledge and skills
Learners should have completed the Care Certificate.
Learners would have ideally completed the Level 2 Diploma in Care
Learners should have a strong understanding of the English language

How many credits are required to complete it?
Learners must achieve a minimum of 58 credits to gain this qualification, 39 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 19 credits from the optional units. A minimum of 35 credits must be achieved at level 3 or above.

How is it assessed?
This qualification is assessed by an Assessor using a portfolio of evidence.

What progression opportunities are there?
Upon completion, learners could progress their career into a more senior role or take on higher responsibilities.

Level 4 Certificate in Principles of Leadership & Management for Adult Care

The Level 4 Certificate in Principles of Leadership & Management for Adult Care qualification introduces learners to adult care leadership and management, preparing learners to progress into further/higher level training such as the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Adult Care.
The qualification covers the essential knowledge required in adult care and support, as well as management, and aligns with the Management Induction Standards, providing the knowledge and understanding to be able to move into a management role.
Career progression is a key element in retaining and growing a high-quality workforce for the adult care sector. Progression into management roles is particularly important and workers with excellent care and support skills at level 3 may be unprepared for the very different knowledge and skills required as a manager. Therefore, this qualification has been developed as a direct route from the level 3 into level 5 management qualifications.

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Adult Care

For those managing an adult care service, including the role of registered manager, to demonstrate an in-depth understanding and effective practice in leadership and management for adult care services.

The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Adult Care qualification supports the development of registered managers of adult care services. The qualification provides learners with the knowledge and skills needed to work in adult care and to have responsibility for leading and managing a service. This will include managing and improving care and support for those accessing the service, supporting and developing the workforce, and driving the vision for their service or organisation.

It covers a wide range of topics including:
• leadership and management
• governance and regulatory processes
• quality assurance
• safeguarding, protection and risk
• communication, relationships and partnership working
• person-centred practice for positive outcomes
• professional development, supervision and performance management
• decision-making skills
• entrepreneurial skills and innovation
• the management of specific services

This qualification is most suitable for those working in a managerial role in adult care settings who are looking to progress their career. It is also appropriate for managers who have not yet achieved a vocational qualification at level 5.

The qualification is formed of mandatory units covering core competencies, and optional units allowing learners to tailor their qualification to reflect the context of their work.

What are the entry requirements?
Learners must be at least 19 years old
Learners will need to be working in the role of deputy manager or manager in an appropriate setting, and carry out responsibilities associated with these roles to be able to show competence in both knowledge and skills
It is recommended that they hold a level 3 qualification or above in a related area.
Learners should have a strong understanding of the English language

How many credits are required to complete it?
Learners must achieve a 95 credits to gain this qualification, 80 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 15 credits from the optional units.

How is it assessed?
This qualification is assessed by an Assessor using a portfolio of evidence.

How long will it take to complete this qualification?
Learners can usually complete the qualification within 18-24 months.

What progression opportunities are there?
Learners can progress to a degree in a related discipline.

The Workforce Development Fund (WDF) is funding from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) disseminated by Skills for Care.

It supports the provision of high-quality care and the continuing professional development of staff across the adult social care sector by providing a contribution towards the costs of vocational learning.
This includes money towards the cost of course fees, associated costs such as employees’ salaries whilst they are undertaking training, coaching and mentoring costs, and wage replacement costs.

By joining HCPA’s partnership you will have access and support to claim back money towards the costs of staff completing a range of qualifications or learning programmes upon completion (subject to eligibility and available funds)
