The Local Government Association and the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) have published a good practice briefing to safeguarding.
The document, entitled, Making Safeguarding Personal for commissioners and providers of health and social care, looks at best practice in five key domains of safeguarding:
- Engaging with the person, prevention and early intervention to enhance wellbeing
- The team around the person
- Leadership and culture
- Workforce and workplace development and support
- The role of safeguarding adults boards
The guide notes that good practice is built on relationships, trust, transparency and values at strategic and operational level; that individuals and their wellbeing must always be at the forefront of practice and service development and that everyone involved must be vigilant and demonstrate professional curiosity, as well as being ready to escalate concerns if needed. It notes: “The hallmarks of best practice, begin and end with person-centred engagement and involvement.”
