Do you work with an older client or community group who would benefit from support to get more active? Or maybe you have a friend, family member or neighbour who wants to improve their health by moving more?
Hertfordshire’s ‘It’s Never Too Late to be Active’ campaign helps older adults become more active by providing a free activity pass to a local leisure centre, ongoing support and the opportunity to win prizes.
So, let’s give it a go. Tell your clients, friends, family and sign up yourself to start leading a happier, healthier, more fulfilling life.
Visit: www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/nevertoolate from 9 May 2022. Alternatively call 01992 555627, drop-in to your local library or visit one of the launch events taking place across the county during May.
HCPA offer weekly chair-based exercise sessions
According to the Chief Medical Officers’ Guidelines for Physical Activity, older adults should be performing 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity per week, completing some activity is better than completing no activity at all! After all, if we don’t use it we lose it! Physically active individuals have a 20-40% lower risk of sustaining hip fractures than sedentary individuals. The latest guidance this year from the NHS suggests that being inactive increases the risk of developing osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes.
To help combat inactivity aim to include structured exercise, involve individuals in activities of daily living, include light activity such as dancing and gardening and set goals to improve mobility.
Let’s encourage all to get moving and don’t forget individuals can take part in our weekly Chair-Based Exercise group, every Tuesday from 11am until 11:30am on zoom. Click HERE to sign up! We look forward to seeing you in our exercise sessions!
