HCPA’s Training Support during COVID-19

HCPA and our partners have collaborated to provide you with a variety of training opportunities during this challenging situation, especially at a time where face-to-face training poses heightened health risks.

Webinars

Although face-to-face training at HCPA may have temporarily stopped, we are still working hard to train and up-skill HCPA members within the care sector in Hertfordshire.
We will continue to add webinars to this page.

Webinars from partners

RIDOUTS: FREE WEEKLY SURGERY
Over the coming weeks Ridouts will be conducting a free, online surgery for providers of health and social care services. We encourage providers to log into our live video meeting and ask our lawyers anything relating to the running of your service, share ideas with other providers and help each other navigate our way through these uncharted waters.

We want you to be able to focus on what you do best – delivering care. If we can lighten the load in any way by sharing initial opinions on legal or operational issues then we are happy to do so.

Spaces will be limited so please email events@ridout-law.com to secure a spot and receive your meeting invitation that will enable access.

Bringing in Volunteers?

If you are taking someone into your service as a volunteer or redeploying people from other jobs, why not look at the quick training options we have for you here? It is pick and mix so choose what you think is appropriate.

The Care Certificate

In this difficult time, it will be almost impossible to give a volunteer the full Care Certificate experience.

» During this time of crisis, Care Certificate videos are available for volunteers here

Please note that in order for the full Care Certificate to be achieved by the volunteer, a workbook must be completed, and a manager within the setting must assess the competencies. This can be achieved after the current crisis.

(Remember to ensure an experienced member of staff works alongside the volunteer as much as possible to check competencies)

iLearn

During this challenging time, Hertfordshire County Council has agreed that they will grant volunteers access to several iLearn sessions, including:

  • Dementia
  • Mental Capacity Act
  • Safeguarding Adults
  • Moving and handling
  • Autism
  • Covid-19 Awareness module with information to share with people you are supporting
    .

Please send an email to tracyrice@hcpa.info with the name, organisation, and email address of the person requiring this training. We will then arrange for the person to be granted access.

SCILs

SCILS (distance learning) can be used to educate people from home and our trainers will assess this for volunteers if you require. A range of topics can be provided, however, we will support you in prioritising the topics necessary for immediate new volunteers. If you require this service, please email kelliehopkins@hcpa.info.

Webinars

HCPA is currently working to set up webinars. If there are any topics that you feel are not being covered elsewhere, please email elenacatalin@hcpa.info to express interest in any topics that need to be covered via webinars.

New Staff

In this difficult time it will be almost impossible to give a new staff member the ‘full care certificate experience’ so why not look at the ideas we have below to support you to provide a ‘stop-gap measure’.

Remember to ensure an experienced member of staff works alongside the new person as much as possible to check competencies and do remember to come back to us when the crisis is over and we will give your staff member the full quality assured training package they deserve.

The Care Certificate

In this difficult time, it will be almost impossible to give a new staff member the full Care Certificate experience so in collaboration with SCILS we may be able to set this up for you as distance learning and assess it. Please email kelliehopkins@hcpa.info for more information.

(Remember to ensure an experienced member of staff works alongside a new staff member as much as possible to check competencies and come back to us when the crisis is over; we will give your staff member the full quality assured training package they deserve)

Approved Training Providers

Please remember to check our Approved Training Providers’ offers for onsite training, where appropriate. Some Approved Training Providers might offer webinars as an alternative to face-to-face training. At the moment, webinars provided by the Approved Training providers may be eligible to be claimed back through the Mandatory Fund by the care provider. Please email leighanreed@hcpa.info for more details or visit our website for a list of our Approved Training Providers (we are working on collecting the offers from approved training providers and putting them on a single webpage for you – watch this space).

Staff in Isolation

If your staff member is isolating then they can choose to up-skill themselves from the options we have in this package.

We hope to be able to offer these staff the opportunity to do short qualifications remotely with us (watch this space).
