DESCRIPTION:Course fee: HCPA Full Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate Member: £25+VAT | ACE Member: £33+VAT | Non-member: £50+VAT  \nHalf day course via Zoom \nLearners will have the opportunity to discuss both within breakout rooms and as part of a wider group the impact a crisis can have upon a person’s mental\, emotional and physical needs\, including the impact on upon “External structures” E.G. family\, work\, finances etc. \nLearners will explore what is useful for a person in their recovery and how self-management\, being responsible for their own recovery journey. Learner will consider external sources of support both formal and informal and why they are also key to becoming well and staying well. \nLearners will consider the difference between a lapse in a person’s recovery and a relapse\, and how individual perspectives on either can cause confusion or distress. Learners will then explore signs that could emerge across a range of domains\, E.G. mental\, emotional etc. \nLearners will understand that wellness plans are not a plan for them to complete\, they are the responsibility of the person who has mental health difficulties/in recovery. Falls related injuries are common in older adults\, can have extremely negative effects on functional independence and quality of life\, and are associated with increased morbidity\, mortality\, and health related costs. We must therefore follow the below guidelines to prevent falls in your service. \nThe World Guidelines for Falls Prevention and Management for Older Adults (2022) recommend: \n\nIndividualised supervised exercise as a falls prevention strategy for adults living in long-term care settings.\nIncluding the promotion of physical activity (when feasible and safe) as part of a multidomain falls prevention intervention in care homes.\nExercise programmes for falls prevention for community-dwelling older adults are to include balance and functional exercises eg. sit-to-stand\, stepping. This guidance is also for adults with cognitive impairment (mild cognitive impairment and mild to moderate dementia).\nThat exercise programmes be of sufficient intensity and duration and be delivered in a way that ensures safety and considers functional abilities.\n\nCourse entry criteria \n\nDelegates must hold a Level 2 Chair-based exercise instructor qualification\nDelegates need to have delivered 2 classes a week for approximately 6 months (approximately 50 hours).\n\n Successful course completion requirements (you will be guided through these on the course!) \n\nPlanning a 15-minute practical strength and balance lesson.\nPractical observation of the 15-minute practical strength and balance lesson\n\nLearning outcomes \n\nTo understand the role of Strength & Balance exercise in the prevention of falls in older adults. Includes the impact of medication on balance\, the main muscles\, their actions\, 1:1 Strength & Balance exercise delivery\nTo understand the importance of ensuring that class participation is appropriate and effective for all individuals.
