DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nCourse fee: HCPA Full Member: Fully funded* | ACE Member: £100+VAT | Associate Member: £112+VAT | Non-member: £150+VAT\nTwo day course at HCPA Campus\nDay 1:12/11/2025\nDay 2:13/11/2025\nThis course will provide staff with essential knowledge and practical skills to support individuals who are at risk of malnutrition as a result of conditions such as dementia and dysphagia. It will include a review of MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool) and the importance of using it correctly in order to develop a food based nutritional care plan to provide adequate and appropriate nutritional support for clients. \nLearning objectives:\n• Identify clients who are at risk of malnutrition using MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool)\n* Develop a person centred nutritional care plan by following the ICB Care Home Malnutrition Management Pathway\n* Provide food based nutritional support to those identified at risk of malnutrition\n* Follow and apply the recommendations included in the ICB Position Statement for the appropriate use of prescribed Oral nutritional supplements (ONS) in Care Homes\n* Define and identify the signs and symptoms of dysphagia\n* State the nutritional implications of dysphagia\n* Follow and use the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) framework\n* Describe how to improve the presentation and nutritional content of modified textured diets for dysphagia\n* Identify the characteristics of dementia that can affect eating and drinking\n* Discuss the practical aspects of assisting someone with dementia to eat and drink and how to support them in improving their nutritional intake\n* Identify the needs of other client groups or individuals who have difficulties eating and drinking resulting in an inadequate nutritional intake \n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nBookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred

The training will cover when equipment is necessary\, how to complete risk assessments effectively\, and how to ensure decisions are always safe and person-centred. It will also assist care staff in identifying where there are risks associated with bed rails that are in place which is appropriate for all care staff. \nBy the end of this session\, participants will be able to:\n1. Explain the key risks associated with bed rails and bed levers.\n2. Follow the step-by-step process in the Bed Rail Risk Management Guide.\n3. Accurately complete a bed rail risk assessment for residents in their care.\n4. Apply person-centred thinking when deciding on bed rail use.\n5. Identify when equipment is no longer necessary or needs reassessment.\n6.
