SUMMARY:Nutrition CHAMPION - Application
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nCourse fees: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £400+VAT | Non-member: £400+VAT \nFour day programme open for applications\nDay 1: 08/10/2026 | Day 2: 15/10/2026 | Day 3: 22/10/2026 | Day 4: 29/10/2026\nAll sessions must be attended \nLead Excellence in Care with HCPA Champions\nEmpower your team by developing experienced colleagues to become HCPA Champions – individuals who influence positive\, high-quality change within their care services. \nWhat is an HCPA Champion?\nA Champion is a trained experienced care professional who drives improvements in care practices\, embeds governance\, and models excellence across the organisation.\nThe programmes equip Champions with the confidence\, tools\, and knowledge to influence change\, support colleagues\, and apply best practice consistently.\nChampions revalidate every two years by evidencing change through action plans\, case studies\, and continuing professional development. \nWhy have Champions?\nCare Managers cannot do everything\, they need support from trusted staff to ensure the service remains compliant with evolving national and local guidance. Champions mentor peers\, influence care delivery\, and maintain elevated care standards through ongoing governance and learning. \nWe suggest care providers have a Champion in each relevant topic area. To ensure quality and focus\, each individual may only be a Champion in up to two topic areas: \nThe Nutrition CHAMPION course will enable Care professionals to take on the role of Champion within their organisation for this topic. The Champion will have a clear understanding of local and national guidance and legislation for and will cascade this information amongst care teams\, improving the safety and quality of care for individuals. \nLearning Outcomes:\n• Define the role of a Nutrition Champion and explain how this role benefits their organisation by promoting person-centred\, evidence-based nutritional care.\n• Describe common nutritional needs and challenges in adult care\, including the impact of malnutrition\, dehydration\, and specific dietary requirements on health and wellbeing.\n• Explain relevant local and national guidance\, legislation\, and best practices relating to nutrition in adult care settings.\n• Apply the SMART goal-setting process to develop tailored nutrition care plans that support individual preferences and health outcomes.\n• Demonstrate effective communication techniques to promote positive conversations about nutrition and provide supportive responses when individuals face barriers to healthy eating.\n• Implement person-centred approaches that promote dignity\, choice\, and independence in relation to food and drink.\n• Analyse barriers to good nutrition in care settings and identify strategies to overcome these\, such as environmental\, cultural\, or organisational challenges.\n• Evaluate the importance of multi-disciplinary collaboration\, including input from dietitians\, speech and language therapists\, and other professionals\, to support individuals with complex nutritional needs.\n• Assess the effectiveness of nutrition interventions and care practices\, recommending improvements to enhance health outcomes and reduce risks such as malnutrition and dehydration.\n• Develop a SMART goal-driven action plan to embed good nutritional care principles within services\, raising awareness\, reducing risks\, and improving the overall quality of care. \nFind out more and apply here \nNote – This is an application\, not a booking. If approved\, you will be invited to book.

Champions mentor peers\, influence care delivery\, and maintain elevated care standards through ongoing governance and learning. \nWe suggest care providers have a Champion in each relevant topic area. To ensure quality and focus\, each individual may only be a Champion in up to two topic areas: \nThe End of Life CHAMPION course will enable Care professionals to take on the role of Champion within their organisation for this topic. The Champion will have a clear understanding of local and national guidance and legislation for and will cascade this information amongst care teams\, improving the safety and quality of care for individuals. \nLearning Outcomes:\n• Define the role of an End of Life Care Champion and explain how this role can enhance the quality of care and support within the organisation.\n• Describe relevant local and national guidance on best practice in end of life care.\n• Define the term “governance” and explain its relevance to ensuring safe\, person-centred end of life care.\n• Apply the principles of SMART goal setting to improve care planning and delivery in end of life situations.\n• Differentiate between levels of support available for individuals at the end of life\, including physical\, emotional\, spiritual and cultural needs\, and apply this knowledge to individual care plans.\n• Analyse how errors or lapses in communication\, assessment or intervention can impact end of life care and identify strategies to reduce these risks.\n• Identify individual factors such as symptoms\, co-morbidities\, personal beliefs and preferences that influence care needs\, and analyse their impact on quality of life at the end of life.\n• Evaluate the actions required when a concern or safeguarding issue arises in end of life care\, including correct reporting and recording procedures.\n• Assess the importance of recognising and responding to signs of distress or changes in condition\, and evaluate when and how to escalate care needs.\n• Develop an approach for regular review of end of life care plans that meets best practice requirements\, and design strategies to support individuals and families in managing care with dignity\, comfort and respect. \nFind out more and apply here \nNote – This is an application\, not a booking. SUMMARY:Depression care pathway
DESCRIPTION:Course fees: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: Not available | Non-member: Not available \n1.5 hour session via Virtual Classroom \nDepression has historically been a long-misunderstood condition\, with there being a significant variance in the way clinicians have diagnosed and treated its symptoms. This has led to\, in many respects an inefficient treatment offer to patients. The NHS’ new Depression Care Pathway seeks to identify\, treat and review cases of depression more thoroughly. \nThis course provides both an overview of depressions to remind learners of the overall breadth of the condition\, types\, symptoms\, frequency and severity and touches upon some key areas of the new pathway. \nDelegates will understand the difference between a low mood and depression\, new severity classifications\, risk factor that make some individuals more prone\, and consider a very broad range of symptoms. \nDelegates will also understand how stigma can play a role in both identifying and treating depression and understand what is meant by treatment resistant depression. \nComparisons will be draw between the (historical) stepped care approach and the new matched care model\, including treatment options available depending upon depression severity classification. Delegates will understand the new care pathway targets and how these relate to their work\, including touching upon the pathway itself. Delegates will understand the PHQ2 and PHQ9 assessment tools\, and will explore relapse prevention techniques. \nWhilst the pathway is for clinicians to follow\, it is important for delegates to be aware of\, as this will help to inform their practice and support individuals they work with through the process and treatment paths available to the individual. \nLearning objectives:\n• To ultimately improve knowledge of a new health care pathway to identify\, treat and review individuals with depression. \n• Understand prevalence of depression\, and its difference from low mood \n• Types of depression and new severity classification. \n• Understand causes\, symptoms and stigma associated with depression. \n• Understand treatment resistant depression and Identify relevant NICE targets. \n• Understand matched care model\, and treatment options. \n• Cover the stages of the pathway\, expectations and tools used to assess and monitor depression. \n• Identify ways to promote relapse prevention. \n\n \n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nBookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred
