The course explores the different types of diabetes\, common signs and symptoms\, diabetic emergencies\, treatment options\, and the role of lifestyle in diabetes management. Learners will also examine person-centred approaches to care\, blood glucose monitoring\, risk assessment\, dietary considerations\, and the prevention and management of diabetes-related complications. Building on core principles\, training will focus on practical skills\, meaningful discussions\, and real-world application to equip care staff with the tools to deliver high-quality\, dignified care at every stage of the end-of-life journey. \nEntry requirements: Learners must have completed the basic introduction to End of Life Care course or equivalent training and have been in their role for a minimum of 6 months prior to attending this course. \nWhat to expect:\nDay 1: This session includes strategies for approaching sensitive conversations with confidence and empathy. It will also cover essential communication techniques for supporting individuals at the end of life\, their families\, and the wider care team.\nDay 2: This session covers how to care for someone in their final days and key considerations for care after death. It explores how to identify and respond to malnutrition and dehydration\, including in those living with dementia or dysphagia\, using the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST). \nLearners will also consider cultural and religious dietary needs\, menu planning\, and the role of nutrition and hydration at end of life.
