This will include a brief overview of some rare types of dementia and what impact these dementias may have on how you support and care for someone living with one of these types of Dementia. \nThis course meets the following HCC dementia care standards:\n• Person Centred care\n• Responsive support to changing Dependency\n• Carer and family involvement\n• Respect and dignity\n• Effective communication\n• Skills and Competence\n• Supportive Environment\n• Collaborative MDT Working \nLearning objectives:\n• To raise awareness of rare dementias\n• To have a basic understanding of a range of different rare dementias\n• To understand the impact of these dementias on an individual and their families\n• To be aware of the unique needs of people living with a rare dementia\n• To increase knowledge in how best to provide care and support for individuals with a rare dementa\n• To be aware of where to go for further advice and support \n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nBookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred

DESCRIPTION:Course fee: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £10+VAT | Non-member: £20+VAT \n1.5 hour online session via Virtual Classroom\n\nThis course supports care staff to develop a clear understanding of depression\, dementia\, and delirium in older people\, often referred to as the three Ds. It focuses on recognising similarities and differences between these conditions and the risks of diagnostic overshadowing\, including the potential impact on safety\, wellbeing\, and quality of care. \nThe course aims to build staff confidence in spotting early signs of change\, understanding when concerns may indicate delirium or depression rather than dementia progression\, and knowing how and when to escalate concerns. Early recognition and appropriate response are key to improving outcomes for people using services. \nEntry Requirements: Learners should have completed their staff induction and have basic awareness of dementia as a minimum. \nLearning Outcomes:\nBy the end of this course\, participants will be able to:\n• Understand the similarities and differences between dementia\, delirium\, and depression\n• Recognise the risks associated with diagnostic overshadowing and how to avoid it in practice\n• Identify early signs and symptoms of delirium and understand what action to take if it is suspected\n• Be aware of the risk of suicide and self-harm in older people\n• Understand the importance of timely escalation and seeking appropriate clinical support\n• Know where to go for help and support if concerned about a change in a resident or service user’s presentation \nStandards mapping\nThis course is mapped to the new dementia care standards:\n• Person-centred care\n• Responsive support for changing dependency\n• Skills and competence\n• Comprehensive health care\n• Collaborative multidisciplinary working \n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nBookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred
