DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nCourse fee: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £37.50+VAT | Non-member: £75+VAT  \nOne day course at HCPA Campus\nThis course combines essential knowledge and practical skills in catheter care and continence management\, supporting health and social care staff to deliver safe\, effective and person-centred care. \nThe training explores the purpose\, care and maintenance of urinary catheters\, alongside a broader understanding of continence and how to support individuals experiencing continence difficulties. It focuses on reducing risks\, promoting dignity and improving quality of life for those receiving care. \nThis training is ideal for care staff supporting individuals with urinary catheters and those experiencing continence issues. \nCourse Summary \nThis course covers:\n• What a urinary catheter is and its purpose\n• Basic anatomy and function of the urological system\n• Reasons for catheter use\, including advantages and associated risks\n• Care and maintenance of urethral and suprapubic catheters\n• Infection prevention and reducing catheter associated complications\n• Drainage systems and urine specimen collection\n• Troubleshooting common catheter issues\n• Factors affecting continence and continence management\n• The impact of incontinence on an individual’s wellbeing and dignity\n• Methods for identifying continence needs\n• Strategies and equipment to support continence\n• Monitoring\, recording and reporting continence care\n• The impact of conditions such as dementia\, stroke\, MS and spinal injury on continence\n• Duty of care and person-centred approaches to continence support \nBy the end of this course\, learners will:\n• Understand how to safely manage and maintain urinary catheters\n• Recognise risks associated with catheter use and how to reduce complications\n• Understand the causes and impact of continence issues\n• Apply appropriate strategies to support individuals with continence needs\n• Use equipment and monitoring approaches effectively\n• Deliver person-centred care that promotes dignity\, comfort and wellbeing \n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nBookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred.

An enabling approach focusses on implementing the necessary strategies to prevent any potential deterioration\, and on supporting people wherever possible\, to improve\, by gaining independence\, meeting their desired goals\, and ultimately having better health outcomes. \nManagers will learn how to support a shift in culture from performing tasks for individuals to enabling them to do more for themselves\, focusing on principles like empowerment\, positive risk-taking\, and promoting physical\, mental\, and social well-being to improve overall quality of life. \nThey will also learn a variety of Physiotherapist led practical skills\, tips and techniques that support individuals to improve such things as: sit to stand\, mobility\, and positioning\, as well as how to spot early signs of deterioration. \nBy the end of this session\, participants will be able to: \n\nProvide an overview of some of the key areas to consider when embedding an Enabling Care Approach.\nConfidently promote and support Staff with Enabling tools\, tips and techniques.\nEmpower those delivering care to question where they are enabling or potentially disabling individuals with every day practice.\n\n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred
