It will equip them with the confidence and skills to ascertain how unwell the person actually is\, and to understand when and how to take appropriate steps to ensure the most appropriate and beneficial outcome for the person. They will also learn how to minimise some of the risks of becoming unwell with a chest infection. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nTo have a basic awareness of respiratory anatomy and physiology \nTo have an awareness of dysphagia\, aspiration pneumonia and the importance of oral health \nTo have an understanding of the importance of posture in the prevention of chest infections \nTo have an awareness of NEWS2/RESTORE2 and how to use it to recognise deterioration in an acutely unwell person e.g.\, a person with sepsis \nTo have an understanding of how to use NEWS2/RESTORE2  to ensure appropriate escalation of treatment in an acutely unwell person \n\n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred

DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nCourse fee: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £75+VAT | Non-member: £150+VAT  \nTwo day course at HCPA Campus\nDay 1: 13/10/2026\nDay 2: 20/10/2026\n\nCourse Overview \nThis two-day extended knowledge course is aimed at care professionals who have been in their role for at least 6 months and already have a strong foundational knowledge of PBS.\nThe course provides a detailed exploration of key topics relevant to supporting behaviour positively within social care. Through interactive activities\, case studies\, and practical tools\, learners will build greater confidence in applying PBS principles effectively while continuing to promote dignity\, independence\, and person-centred care. \nThis course is aligned with the Workforce Development Pathway under:\n• Care or Support Worker – Established in their role with consolidated skills and experience\n• Enhanced Care Worker – Delegated healthcare activities and/or condition-specific support \nEntry Requirements\nParticipants must have completed the Care Certificate or equivalent induction training and worked in the care sector for a minimum of 6 months. \nLearning objectives:\n• Understand the foundations of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).\n• Deepen understanding of the principles and values of PBS\n• Understand behaviour as communication\, and recognise the messages and needs conveyed through behaviour.\n• Apply PBS to real-life practice through reflective learning\, case studies\, and interactive discussions.\n• Explore proactive and reactive strategies in greater detail.\n• Understand the importance of trauma-informed care\, and how trauma can influence behaviour.\n• Explore trauma-informed PBS approaches to ensure that support plans are sensitive\, person-centred\, and promote healing.\n• Develop skills in effective communication\, including using positive body language and active listening\, to build positive relationships and trust.\n• Explore the role of capable environments in supporting behaviour positively and enabling people to thrive.\n• Develop confidence and skills in de-escalation and diffusion techniques.\n• Prepare to support behaviour positively within care environments\, focusing on building relationships with families and the multidisciplinary team (MDT) \n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nBookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred.
