DESCRIPTION:    \nCourse fee: £75+VAT – This is a closed session for Quantum employees only\nThis course is eligible for funding re-imbursement via the Learning & Development Support Scheme (LDSS). More information can be found here\n\nOne day course at HCPA Campus\nThis course is suitable for staff providing direct care or making decisions across all adult care settings \nUnder the Health and Care Act 2022 all CQC-regulated providers must ensure their staff receive training in learning disability and autism that is appropriate to their role.\nThis is supported by the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice\, which sets out how to meet this legal duty. \n\nThis applies to all services\nEven if your service does not currently support autistic people or people with a learning disability\, this requirement still applies.\nPeople with learning disabilities and autistic people may use a wide range of services\, including general\, older people’s\, and non-specialist settings. In some cases\, individuals may not have a formal diagnosis or may not have disclosed it. Therefore\, all staff must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide safe\, respectful\, and inclusive care. \nThe Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the government’s preferred training of meaningful training for health and social care staff on learning disabilities and autism.\nThe Tier 2 course is co-delivered by trainers with lived experience and covers: \n\nAvoiding diagnostic overshadowing\nCommon co-occurring conditions\nLegal frameworks (Mental Capacity Act\, Human Rights Act\, Autism Act\, Equality Act)\nReasonable adjustments\, including hospital passports\nAppropriate DNACPR application\nProfessional culture\, biases\, and their impact\nAccessible communication\nUnderstanding and responding to individuals and families\nAsk Listen Do framework\nLearning from LeDeR\n\nPrior to attending\, delegates must have completed the e-learning module which can be found here\nPlease note this is managed on the national platform “e-learning for healthcare” and is not managed by HCPA. DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nCourse fees: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £400+VAT | Non-member: £400+VAT \nFour day programme open for applications\nDay 1: 08/10/2026 | Day 2: 15/10/2026 | Day 3: 22/10/2026 | Day 4: 29/10/2026\nAll sessions must be attended \nLead Excellence in Care with HCPA Champions\nEmpower your team by developing experienced colleagues to become HCPA Champions – individuals who influence positive\, high-quality change within their care services. \nWhat is an HCPA Champion?\nA Champion is a trained experienced care professional who drives improvements in care practices\, embeds governance\, and models excellence across the organisation.\nThe programmes equip Champions with the confidence\, tools\, and knowledge to influence change\, support colleagues\, and apply best practice consistently.\nChampions revalidate every two years by evidencing change through action plans\, case studies\, and continuing professional development. \nWhy have Champions?\nCare Managers cannot do everything\, they need support from trusted staff to ensure the service remains compliant with evolving national and local guidance. Champions mentor peers\, influence care delivery\, and maintain elevated care standards through ongoing governance and learning. \nWe suggest care providers have a Champion in each relevant topic area. To ensure quality and focus\, each individual may only be a Champion in up to two topic areas: \nThe Nutrition CHAMPION course will enable Care professionals to take on the role of Champion within their organisation for this topic. The Champion will have a clear understanding of local and national guidance and legislation for and will cascade this information amongst care teams\, improving the safety and quality of care for individuals. \nLearning Outcomes:\n• Define the role of a Nutrition Champion and explain how this role benefits their organisation by promoting person-centred\, evidence-based nutritional care.\n• Describe common nutritional needs and challenges in adult care\, including the impact of malnutrition\, dehydration\, and specific dietary requirements on health and wellbeing.\n• Explain relevant local and national guidance\, legislation\, and best practices relating to nutrition in adult care settings.\n• Apply the SMART goal-setting process to develop tailored nutrition care plans that support individual preferences and health outcomes.\n• Demonstrate effective communication techniques to promote positive conversations about nutrition and provide supportive responses when individuals face barriers to healthy eating.\n• Implement person-centred approaches that promote dignity\, choice\, and independence in relation to food and drink.\n• Analyse barriers to good nutrition in care settings and identify strategies to overcome these\, such as environmental\, cultural\, or organisational challenges.\n• Evaluate the importance of multi-disciplinary collaboration\, including input from dietitians\, speech and language therapists\, and other professionals\, to support individuals with complex nutritional needs.\n• Assess the effectiveness of nutrition interventions and care practices\, recommending improvements to enhance health outcomes and reduce risks such as malnutrition and dehydration.\n• Develop a SMART goal-driven action plan to embed good nutritional care principles within services\, raising awareness\, reducing risks\, and improving the overall quality of care. \nFind out more and apply here \nNote – This is an application\, not a booking.
