DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nCourse fee: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £75+VAT | Non-member: £150+VAT  \nTwo day course at HCPA Campus\nDay 1: 19/08/2026\nDay 2: 20/08/2026\n\nCourse Overview\nThis course develops the knowledge and skills needed to support people who require therapeutic diets due to medical conditions. It explores how to identify and respond to malnutrition and dehydration\, including in those living with dementia or dysphagia\, using the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST). \nLearners will also consider cultural and religious dietary needs\, menu planning\, and the role of nutrition and hydration at end of life. Practical communication and support approaches will be explored throughout\, supported by case studies to apply learning in real scenarios. \nThis course is aligned with the Workforce Development Pathway under:\n• Care or Support Worker – Established in their role with consolidated skills and experience\n• Enhanced Care Worker – Delegated healthcare activities and/or condition-specific support \nEntry Requirements\nParticipants must have completed a Care Certificate or equivalent and have worked in care for a minimum of 6 months. \nLearning objectives:\n• Identify individuals at risk of malnutrition using the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) and develop person centred\, food-based nutritional care plans in line with Integrated Care Board guidance\n• Apply best practice in the use of oral nutritional supplements\, supporting individuals at risk of malnutrition\, including those living with dementia or dysphagia\n• Recognise and respond to eating and drinking difficulties\, including dementia related challenges and the use of the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) framework\n• Demonstrate an understanding of therapeutic diets\, including those for diabetes and other medical conditions\, alongside cultural and religious dietary requirements\n• Explain the role of nutrition and hydration at the end of life and apply a person-centred approach\, including effective communication with individuals\, families and others involved in care \n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nBookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred.
