DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n\nCourse fee: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £37.50+VAT | Non-member: £75+VAT  \nOne day course at HCPA Campus \nThis course will introduce the foundations of a healthy and balanced diet for the people you support\, helping them to eat\, drink and age well. It explores the importance of enjoyable mealtimes by creating a positive eating environment and developing suitable meal plans. \nThe course focuses on supporting people to maintain a healthy weight and access a nutrient rich diet. It also explains the importance of accurate nutritional screening using the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) to identify and respond to those at risk of malnutrition and dehydration. \nEntry Requirements – Learners must have completed Care Induction. \nLearning Objectives\n• Explain the benefits of a nutrient rich diet for the people you support\n• Identify individuals at risk of malnutrition using the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST)\n• Develop and apply person-centred nutritional care plans in line with Integrated Care Board guidance\n• Provide appropriate food based support and understand the use of oral nutritional supplements in care homes\n• Recognise and respond to eating and drinking difficulties\, including those related to dementia and other conditions \n\n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nBookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred

Building on core principles\, training will focus on practical skills\, meaningful discussions\, and real-world application to equip care staff with the tools to deliver high-quality\, dignified care at every stage of the end-of-life journey. \nEntry requirements: Learners must have completed the basic introduction to End of Life Care course or equivalent training and have been in their role for a minimum of 6 months prior to attending this course. \nWhat to expect:\nDay 1: This session includes strategies for approaching sensitive conversations with confidence and empathy. It will also cover essential communication techniques for supporting individuals at the end of life\, their families\, and the wider care team.\nDay 2: This session covers how to care for someone in their final days and key considerations for care after death.
