This has led to\, in many respects an inefficient treatment offer to patients. The NHS’ new Depression Care Pathway seeks to identify\, treat and review cases of depression more thoroughly. \nThis course provides both an overview of depressions to remind learners of the overall breadth of the condition\, types\, symptoms\, frequency and severity and touches upon some key areas of the new pathway. \nDelegates will understand the difference between a low mood and depression\, new severity classifications\, risk factor that make some individuals more prone\, and consider a very broad range of symptoms. \nDelegates will also understand how stigma can play a role in both identifying and treating depression and understand what is meant by treatment resistant depression. \nComparisons will be draw between the (historical) stepped care approach and the new matched care model\, including treatment options available depending upon depression severity classification. Delegates will understand the new care pathway targets and how these relate to their work\, including touching upon the pathway itself. More information can be found here\n\nOne day course at HCPA Campus\nThis course is suitable for staff providing direct care or making decisions across all adult care settings \nUnder the Health and Care Act 2022 all CQC-regulated providers must ensure their staff receive training in learning disability and autism that is appropriate to their role.\nThis is supported by the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice\, which sets out how to meet this legal duty. \n\nThis applies to all services\nEven if your service does not currently support autistic people or people with a learning disability\, this requirement still applies.\nPeople with learning disabilities and autistic people may use a wide range of services\, including general\, older people’s\, and non-specialist settings. In some cases\, individuals may not have a formal diagnosis or may not have disclosed it. It is recommendation that each provider books two people to attend. Champions must be in a position to effect change within their service. \nDelegates should also complete this pre-learning prior to attending WATCH HERE \nMusic Therapy has many emotional\, social\, cognitive and physical health benefits. It can help anyone at any given time.\nMusic in dementia care:\n• Promotes verbal and non verbal expression\n• Increases opportunities for meaningful interaction\n• Increases levels of cognitive stimulation\n• Promotes the use of unimpaired cognitive function\n• Enables reminiscence and strengthens self-identity\n• Promotes engagement and communication among residents through social interaction \nBy undertaking this programme\, the delegate and the care organisation commits to deliver work-based learning to share knowledge with wider staff teams\, obtaining consent from participants\, and gathering evidence to support the research project. Champions are also expected to attend monthly online networking sessions to maintain recognition within the programme. \nThe Music in Herts Dementia Care Champion aims to provide delegates with the skills and confidence to embed therapeutic music techniques into dementia care\, improving the quality of life for people living with dementia. Benefits may include improved communication and wellbeing\, reduced anxiety and depression\, increased self-esteem\, cognitive stimulation\, opportunities for reminiscence\, emotional expression\, and connection to cultural identity. \nThe course is co-delivered by HCPA and a Music 24 music therapist. Delegates will gain an in-depth understanding of social care best practice alongside expert advice and demonstrations from a highly experienced music therapist. \nOver three days\, delegates will learn to create personalised music experiences for people living with dementia\, taking into account their musical preferences\, histories\, and cultural backgrounds. Training areas include passive listening to music\, active listening to music\, playing instruments or singing and talking about music.\nLife stories and person-centred approaches are integrated throughout the course to help delegates understand residents’ individual musical journeys. Music is recognised as a valuable tool to support mood and behaviour\, helping care teams embed positive behaviour support approaches.\nDelegates will also learn to use a dedicated toolbox of resources. These include structured session plans with clear instructions to build confidence and facilitate engagement. Session plans will include warm-up exercises\, main activities\, and concluding activities such as singing\, playing instruments\, or movement\, tailored to each resident’s abilities. \nResources – Champions will have access to a resource library of tools\, videos and activity session plans to run in their care service\, in addition to communication tools on how to engage residents\, staff and families\, alongside consent forms. \nPractical activities will involve:\n• Using a variety of instruments\n• Rhythm and pitch exercises\n• Pattern recognition\n• Movement and call-and-response activities\n• Creating personalised playlists to encourage social and cognitive engagement \nDuring the course\, delegates will begin creating music session plans and a personal Champion action plan. These will need to be completed as between days two and three. On day three\, each delegate will deliver a 10-15 minute music session demonstration and receive developmental feedback to support their ongoing progress. \nAfter completing the three-day course\, an in-service follow-up observation will be arranged. This will assess a live music session and review the delegates action plan. This stage also provides further feedback and is when the service can receive formal recognition. Following the course\, Champions will benefit from a monthly support network that promotes collaboration and continuous improvement in dementia care. They will also gain access to a growing library of therapeutic music resources to enhance their practice. \nEquipment – A musical starter pack will be created for each home to allow sessions to start without any delays. This pack will include basic percussion\, scarves and an optional Bluetooth Speaker. SUMMARY:Understanding self-harm and suicidal ideation and intent
DESCRIPTION:Course fee: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £37.50+VAT | Non-member: £75+VAT  \nOne day course at HCPA \nThe issues of self-harm and suicidal ideation can be steeped in stigma within society and for individuals who may experience these difficulties. This training has been developed to promote professional vigilance at the community level and give professionals the knowledge\, skills and confidence to work with affected individuals. \nThe course will explain what self-harm is\, why people use it as a means of coping\, and methods including typical and atypical to show the scale of harmful behaviours. Learners will understand that both Self-harm and suicidal thoughts are deeply complex and multifaceted and will explore what is meant by the term elevated risks. \nIt will explain why people may have suicidal thoughts\, how these range in frequency and intensity and will consider biological considerations for both issues as a way of explaining in more detail their nature including other models such as the Drive\, Soothe\, Threat system\, Lineham stress model and self-harm reinforcing cycle. \nLearner will use the information from the topic areas to start to build a picture of signs that a person may be struggling with suicidal thoughts and cover the NHS Connect\, Understand\, Assist conversation. \nLearners will understand the importance of prevention and protection in care plans rather than trying to gauge risk likelihood. DESCRIPTION:Course fee: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £37.50+VAT | Non-member: £75+VAT  \nOne day course at HCPA \nThis course is suitable for any organisation that support individuals who:\n• Has a mental health issue\n• Has experienced any form of crisis\n• Is in recovery\n• Or have either a known or suspected substance misuse issue \nThis is a 2-part full day course that covers substance misuse in the morning. The afternoon will cover crisis\, recovery\, and wellness plans. \nPlease note\, the substance misuse course has been co-designed with a professional from Change Grow Live Drug and Alcohol Service to raise awareness and consider how professionals can work and communicate with people with a mental illness and who misuse substances. It is not designed to train professionals to become drug and alcohol workers as these roles are highly specialised. \nIt will help learners to understand some of the many reasons why people misuse both legal and illegal substances. Learners will have an opportunity to learn briefly about a wide range of substances however\, focus will be placed on those substances most prevalent to Hertfordshire. \nLearners will have opportunities to consider some of the barriers people face regardless of a formal diagnosis and how people can be supported through these barriers. \nSpotting the signs of substance misuse is not always easy as some signs can often mimic signs of mental disorders\, therefore the course will outline a wide range of signs and symptoms. \nThe course will offer advice on how to share your concerns with a person they may know or suspect of misusing substances and how to work collaboratively with the individual. \nFurther advice will be given to learners on practical support they can provide including harm-reduction methods\, providing good information and advice. \nIn the afternoon learners will have the opportunity to discuss as part of a wider group what is meant by the term crisis and the impact a crisis can have upon a person’s mental\, emotional and physical needs\, including the impact on upon “External structures” E.G. family\, work\, finances etc. \nLearners will then explore what is meant by the term recovery and will consider two models: personal recovery and clinical recovery. \nLearners will consider the difference between a lapse in a person’s recovery and a relapse\, and how individual perspectives on either can cause confusion or distress. More information can be found here\n\nOne day course at HCPA Campus\nThis course is suitable for staff providing direct care or making decisions across all adult care settings \nUnder the Health and Care Act 2022 all CQC-regulated providers must ensure their staff receive training in learning disability and autism that is appropriate to their role.\nThis is supported by the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice\, which sets out how to meet this legal duty. \n\nThis applies to all services\nEven if your service does not currently support autistic people or people with a learning disability\, this requirement still applies.\nPeople with learning disabilities and autistic people may use a wide range of services\, including general\, older people’s\, and non-specialist settings. In some cases\, individuals may not have a formal diagnosis or may not have disclosed it.
