More information can be found here\n\nOne day course at HCPA Campus\nThis course is suitable for staff providing direct care or making decisions across all adult care settings \nUnder the Health and Care Act 2022 all CQC-regulated providers must ensure their staff receive training in learning disability and autism that is appropriate to their role.\nThis is supported by the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice\, which sets out how to meet this legal duty. \n\nThis applies to all services\nEven if your service does not currently support autistic people or people with a learning disability\, this requirement still applies.\nPeople with learning disabilities and autistic people may use a wide range of services\, including general\, older people’s\, and non-specialist settings. In some cases\, individuals may not have a formal diagnosis or may not have disclosed it. Therefore\, all staff must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide safe\, respectful\, and inclusive care. \nThe Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the government’s preferred training of meaningful training for health and social care staff on learning disabilities and autism.\nThe Tier 2 course is co-delivered by trainers with lived experience and covers: \n\nAvoiding diagnostic overshadowing\nCommon co-occurring conditions\nLegal frameworks (Mental Capacity Act\, Human Rights Act\, Autism Act\, Equality Act)\nReasonable adjustments\, including hospital passports\nAppropriate DNACPR application\nProfessional culture\, biases\, and their impact\nAccessible communication\nUnderstanding and responding to individuals and families\nAsk Listen Do framework\nLearning from LeDeR\n\nPrior to attending\, delegates must have completed the e-learning module which can be found here\nPlease note this is managed on the national platform “e-learning for healthcare” and is not managed by HCPA. Participants recap material from pre-learning regarding the types and prevalence of dementia and engage in practical care strategies focusing on effective communication\, care planning\, incorporating life stories\, and achieving positive outcomes. The session includes an introduction to Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) and highlights the importance of using the dementia checklist in daily practice. \nLearning objectives:\n• Describe the critical role of person-centred support and the principles that underpin good practice.\n• Explain the significance of personalisation tools\, advanced care planning\, and lifework history in enabling people living with Dementia to live well.\n• Understand the fundamentals of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and how to implement behaviour support interventions for people living with Dementia\n• Understand the importance of effective communication in Dementia care and recognise the relationship between communication\, interaction\, and behaviour.\n• Describe the value of effective collaboration and involvement of families\, support networks\, and community services in the care and support of people living with Dementia. \n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nBookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred
