Participants recap material from pre-learning regarding the types and prevalence of dementia and engage in practical care strategies focusing on effective communication\, care planning\, incorporating life stories\, and achieving positive outcomes. DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nCourse fee: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £37.50+VAT | Non-member: £75+VAT  \nOne day course at HCPA Campus\n \nThis session will increase care staff’s awareness of the wide range of equipment\, small aids\, and adaptations available to support people with everyday activities\, improve comfort\, and promote independence. Delegates will explore both commonly used and less familiar equipment\, including solutions such as Wendyletts\, turning systems\, adaptive equipment\, and other practical aids that can make a significant difference to a person’s daily life. It will also focus on when to spot if equipment is no longer safe for a person concerning sling sizes and ability therefore knowing when to make referrals to the Community Occupational Therapy teams. \nThe session is not designed to replace moving and handling training. Instead\, it focuses on helping staff recognise the equipment that is available\, understand its purpose and limitations\, identify whe current equipment may no longer be appropriate\, and know when specialist advice or assessment should be sought. \nParticipants will also gain an understanding of referral pathways to Occupational Therapy\, Physiotherapy\, Wheelchair Services\, and other relevant services\, ensuring people receive the right support at the right time. \nThis session is particularly beneficial for senior care staff\, team leaders\, and any staff members who regularly identify equipment needs or complete referrals\, helping them feel more confident in recognising appropriate solutions and accessing the right services. \nBy the end of this session\, participants will be able to:  \nRecognise a wide range of equipment\, small aids\, and adaptations that can support comfort\, safety\, independence\, and participation in everyday activities.\nIdentify opportunities where equipment may benefit the people they support and understand when to consider discussing or requesting further assessment.\nExplain the purpose\, limitations\, and key safety considerations of commonly used equipment\, recognising when further advice or specialist moving and handling support is required.\nRecognise when existing equipment\, such as slings\, stand aids\, transfer equipment\, or seating\, may no longer be appropriate and requires review or reassessment.\nIdentify when specialist assessment is required and understand the referral pathways to Occupational Therapy\, Physiotherapy\, Wheelchair Services\, and other relevant services.\nApply a person-centred approach when recognising equipment needs\, ensuring individuals receive the right support\, at the right time\, from the right professional. \n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred

The course builds clarity\, focus and confidence under pressure\, helping leaders prioritise effectively\, coach themselves and others\, and sustain their impact in demanding care environments. \nThis Skills for Care CPD module places coaching at the heart of effective leadership\, supported by strong self management and resilience. \nThe day begins by exploring what resilience really is\, and how self management\, emotional intelligence\, beliefs and values influence leadership behaviour under pressure. Managers reflect on how they manage time\, stress and competing demands\, and how this impacts their ability to lead and support others effectively. \nParticipants are then introduced to a practical coaching model\, designed for everyday leadership conversations.
