DESCRIPTION:    \nCourse fee: £75+VAT\nThis course is eligible for funding re-imbursement via the Learning & Development Support Scheme (LDSS). More information can be found here\n\nOne day course at HCPA Campus\nThis course is suitable for staff providing direct care or making decisions across all adult care settings \nUnder the Health and Care Act 2022 all CQC-regulated providers must ensure their staff receive training in learning disability and autism that is appropriate to their role.\nThis is supported by the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice\, which sets out how to meet this legal duty. \n\nThis applies to all services\nEven if your service does not currently support autistic people or people with a learning disability\, this requirement still applies.\nPeople with learning disabilities and autistic people may use a wide range of services\, including general\, older people’s\, and non-specialist settings. In some cases\, individuals may not have a formal diagnosis or may not have disclosed it. Therefore\, all staff must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide safe\, respectful\, and inclusive care. \nThe Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the government’s preferred training of meaningful training for health and social care staff on learning disabilities and autism.\nThe Tier 2 course is co-delivered by trainers with lived experience and covers: \n\nAvoiding diagnostic overshadowing\nCommon co-occurring conditions\nLegal frameworks (Mental Capacity Act\, Human Rights Act\, Autism Act\, Equality Act)\nReasonable adjustments\, including hospital passports\nAppropriate DNACPR application\nProfessional culture\, biases\, and their impact\nAccessible communication\nUnderstanding and responding to individuals and families\nAsk Listen Do framework\nLearning from LeDeR\n\nPrior to attending\, delegates must have completed the e-learning module which can be found here\nPlease note this is managed on the national platform “e-learning for healthcare” and is not managed by HCPA. DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nCourse fee: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £75+VAT | Non-member: £150+VAT \nTwo day course at HCPA Campus\nDay 1: 21/09/2026\nDay 2: 28/09/2026\n\nCourse Overview \nThis course is an interactive 2-day programme designed to deepen knowledge and strengthen practice in End-of-Life Care. Building on core principles\, training will focus on practical skills\, meaningful discussions\, and real-world application to equip care staff with the tools to deliver high-quality\, dignified care at every stage of the end-of-life journey. \nEntry requirements: Learners must have completed the basic introduction to End of Life Care course or equivalent training and have been in their role for a minimum of 6 months prior to attending this course. \nWhat to expect:\nDay 1: This session includes strategies for approaching sensitive conversations with confidence and empathy. It will also cover essential communication techniques for supporting individuals at the end of life\, their families\, and the wider care team.\nDay 2: This session covers how to care for someone in their final days and key considerations for care after death. It will also include Advance Care Planning\, ReSPECT forms\, and practical tools to promote clear\, respectful communication. \nThis course is aligned with the Workforce Development Pathway under:\n• Care or Support Worker – Established in their role with consolidated skills and experience\n• Enhanced Care Worker – Delegated healthcare activities and/or condition-specific support \nLearning objectives:\n• Identify challenging questions that may arise in end-of-life care and apply facilitative communication techniques to manage them effectively.\n• Recognise verbal and non-verbal cues during conversations and demonstrate strategies to respond appropriately.\n• Interpret and utilise key documents (e.g.\, ReSPECT forms) to support Advance Care Planning and informed decision-making.\n• Discuss and evaluate the elements that contribute to a “good death” for service users\, families\, and staff\, and formulate approaches to embed these principles in practice. \n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nBookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred.
