More information can be found here\n\nOne day course at Accedo Care Ltd\nThis course is suitable for staff providing direct care or making decisions across all adult care settings \nUnder the Health and Care Act 2022 all CQC-regulated providers must ensure their staff receive training in learning disability and autism that is appropriate to their role.\nThis is supported by the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice\, which sets out how to meet this legal duty. \n\nThis applies to all services\nEven if your service does not currently support autistic people or people with a learning disability\, this requirement still applies.\nPeople with learning disabilities and autistic people may use a wide range of services\, including general\, older people’s\, and non-specialist settings. In some cases\, individuals may not have a formal diagnosis or may not have disclosed it. Therefore\, all staff must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide safe\, respectful\, and inclusive care. \nThe Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the government’s preferred training of meaningful training for health and social care staff on learning disabilities and autism.\nThe Tier 2 course is co-delivered by trainers with lived experience and covers: \n\nAvoiding diagnostic overshadowing\nCommon co-occurring conditions\nLegal frameworks (Mental Capacity Act\, Human Rights Act\, Autism Act\, Equality Act)\nReasonable adjustments\, including hospital passports\nAppropriate DNACPR application\nProfessional culture\, biases\, and their impact\nAccessible communication\nUnderstanding and responding to individuals and families\nAsk Listen Do framework\nLearning from LeDeR\n\nPrior to attending\, delegates must have completed the e-learning module which can be found here\nPlease note this is managed on the national platform “e-learning for healthcare” and is not managed by HCPA. It explores how to support people with dementia in a more skilled and responsive way\, in line with person-centred frameworks and national best practice. The course includes an introduction to positive behaviour support planning. \nThis course is aligned with the Workforce Development Pathway under:\n• Care or Support Worker – Established in their role with consolidated skills and experience\n• Enhanced Care Worker – Delegated healthcare activities and/or condition-specific support \nEntry Requirements\nLearners must have completed the Dementia Person Centred Support Care Strategies course or equivalent. \nLearning objectives:\n• Understand types and progression of dementia\n• Promote early diagnosis and advance care planning\n• Apply the Mental Capacity Act and support informed decision-making\n• Encourage risk-positive care\n• Explore appropriate use of medication in dementia care\n• Support prevention and enablement approaches\n• Deliver person-centred dementia care\n• Understand memory\, sensory loss\, and communication needs\n• Create dementia-friendly environments\n• Respond to behaviours of distress and apply positive behaviour strategies \n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nBookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred.

Delegates must be fit and able to use moving and assisting equipment*\nThis course is suitable for anybody whose role involves Moving & Assisting activities within a social care setting\, such as those working in a care home\, nursing home\, or home care setting. \nIf you work in health and social care\, it is likely you will have to move or assist people as part of your role. Often this will involve the use of specialist equipment such as sliding aids\, hoists\, slings and handling belts. It is important that you carry out Moving & Assisting activities safely and correctly to prevent the risk of injuries to yourself or others. \nThe course will provide the information and guidance needed to move and position individuals safely\, in a way that promotes their independence\, dignity and functional mobility.
