DESCRIPTION:    \nCourse fee: £75+VAT\nThis course is eligible for funding re-imbursement via the Learning & Development Support Scheme (LDSS). More information can be found here\n\nOne day course at HCPA Campus\nThis course is suitable for staff providing direct care or making decisions across all adult care settings \nUnder the Health and Care Act 2022 all CQC-regulated providers must ensure their staff receive training in learning disability and autism that is appropriate to their role.\nThis is supported by the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice\, which sets out how to meet this legal duty. \n\nThis applies to all services\nEven if your service does not currently support autistic people or people with a learning disability\, this requirement still applies.\nPeople with learning disabilities and autistic people may use a wide range of services\, including general\, older people’s\, and non-specialist settings. In some cases\, individuals may not have a formal diagnosis or may not have disclosed it. Therefore\, all staff must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide safe\, respectful\, and inclusive care. \nThe Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the government’s preferred training of meaningful training for health and social care staff on learning disabilities and autism.\nThe Tier 2 course is co-delivered by trainers with lived experience and covers: \n\nAvoiding diagnostic overshadowing\nCommon co-occurring conditions\nLegal frameworks (Mental Capacity Act\, Human Rights Act\, Autism Act\, Equality Act)\nReasonable adjustments\, including hospital passports\nAppropriate DNACPR application\nProfessional culture\, biases\, and their impact\nAccessible communication\nUnderstanding and responding to individuals and families\nAsk Listen Do framework\nLearning from LeDeR\n\nPrior to attending\, delegates must have completed the e-learning module which can be found here\nPlease note this is managed on the national platform “e-learning for healthcare” and is not managed by HCPA. SUMMARY:Therapeutic Observation in Dementia Care - Best Practice for 1:1 Support
DESCRIPTION:Course fee: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £10+VAT | Non-member: £20+VAT \n1.5 hour online session via Virtual Classroom\n\nThis course supports care staff to deliver safe\, effective\, and person centred one to one support for people living with dementia. It focuses on best practice in special observation\, helping staff understand when and why it is used\, their responsibilities\, and how to use it in a way that benefits both the person receiving care and the staff providing support. \nThe course uses practical examples to explore communication\, approach\, spotting distress\, and responding appropriately. It also provides guidance on de escalation techniques to reduce behaviours of distress and support positive outcomes. \nEntry Requirements: Learners should have completed their staff induction and have basic awareness of dementia as a minimum. \nLearning Outcomes:\nBy the end of this course\, participants will be able to:\n• Understand the purpose of special observation in dementia care\n• Identify the benefits and challenges of providing one to one support\n• Describe best practice in special observation\n• Understand their responsibilities when carrying out special observation\n• Develop communication skills and approaches that support people living with dementia\n• Recognise signs of distress and respond appropriately\n• Use techniques to de escalate behaviours of distress and promote wellbeing \nStandards mapping\nThis course is mapped to the new dementia care standards:\n• Person centred care\n• Responsive support for changing dependency\n• Respect and dignity\n• Skills and competence\n• Supportive environment\n• Meaningful activities and engagement\n• Culture of positive behavioural support\n• Leadership for dementia excellence \n*Please note: As per our T&C’s\, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance\, non-completion or late cancellation.\nBookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.\nDelegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred
