DESCRIPTION:    \nCourse fee: £20+VAT\nThis course is eligible for funding re-imbursement via the Learning & Development Support Scheme (LDSS). More information can be found here\n \n\nOne hour course via MS Teams\nThis course is suitable for support staff who do not provide direct care (eg. domestic\, admin\, kitchen).\nFor those providing direct care or making decisions\, the Tier 2 one day course is required \nUnder the Health and Care Act 2022 all CQC-regulated providers must ensure their staff receive training in learning disability and autism that is appropriate to their role.\nThis is supported by the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice\, which sets out how to meet this legal duty. \n\nThis applies to all services\nEven if your service does not currently support autistic people or people with a learning disability\, this requirement still applies.\nPeople with learning disabilities and autistic people may use a wide range of services\, including general\, older people’s\, and non-specialist settings. In some cases\, individuals may not have a formal diagnosis or may not have disclosed it. Therefore\, all staff must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide safe\, respectful\, and inclusive care. \nThe Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the government’s preferred training of meaningful training for health and social care staff on learning disabilities and autism.\nThe Tier 1 course is co-delivered by trainers with lived experience and covers: \n\nHow to ask someone how they need to be supported\nGroup questions for discussion\nSharing own thoughts and experiences\nUnderstanding the need for reasonable adjustments\nMyth-busting\nExperiences of using services from those with lived experience\n\nLearning Outcomes: \n\nUnderstand that everyone is different and has different needs\nGive an example of how you can support a person with a learning disability or an autistic person differently\nGive an overview of what ‘reasonable adjustments’ means\nIdentify changes in practice needed to enable excellent care and services for people with a learning disability and autistic people\n\nPrior to attending\, delegates must have completed the e-learning module which can be found here\nPlease note this is managed on the national platform “e-learning for healthcare” and is not managed by HCPA. Ideal for senior care staff or those in lead roles\, the course covers the full care planning journey\, from initial assessment through to daily delivery\, risk assessment\, and quality assurance. \nThis course is aligned with the Workforce Development Pathway under:\n• Care or Support Worker – Established in their role with consolidated skills and experience\n• Enhanced Care Worker – Delegated healthcare activities and/or condition-specific support \nEntry Requirements\nLearners must be responsible for care planning activities in their services. \nCourse structure \nDay 1 – Laying the Foundations\nFocuses on pre-admission information gathering\, referral and funding pathways\, and planning for a smooth transition into care. Learners will explore the principles of person-centred assessment and how different conditions and needs influence planning. Key safeguarding\, human rights\, and service agreement considerations are also covered. \nDay 2 – Care Planning and Risk in Practice\nAn interactive workshop day where learners apply learning to develop real-life care plans and SMART outcomes. The session explores how to manage fluctuating needs\, balance risk and choice\, and create clear\, practical risk assessments that reflect daily care delivery and mental capacity principles. \nDay 3 – Reviewing and Improving Quality\nCovers quality assurance\, record-keeping\, and the use of tools such as ABC charts and incident logs. The course focuses on specific diagnoses and how to support individuals in their recovery and treatment.
