SUMMARY:First Aid at Work
DESCRIPTION:Course fee: £295+VAT\nA significant saving on a national providers price of £410+VAT \nThree day course at HCPA Campus\nAll sessions must be attended (T&C’s apply).\nDay 1: 04/06/2026\nDay 2: 05/06/2026\nDay 3: 08/06/2026\n*This course involves physical activity. Delegates must be fit and able to participate*\nThe First Aid at Work qualification\, which conforms with HSE guidance\, provides a comprehensive set of practical skills needed by first aiders in most workplaces\, giving both the ability and knowledge to deal with first aid emergencies. The qualification meets the requirements for training first-aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first-aid needs assessment. \nThe qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider\, how to assess an incident and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness. The qualification also covers first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED and assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness such as chest injuries\, spinal injuries\, anaphylaxis and correct use of auto-injectors. \nIn line with guidance provided by the HSE\, the qualification supports/approves workplace first aiders for a period of 3 years\, after which point delegates will need to retake the course. Therefore\, the qualification is valid for 3 years from the date of award. In addition to this\, it is recommended that delegates refresh their knowledge annually. \nTopics covered:\n• Roles and responsibilities of an emergency first aid responder\n• Undertake Primary surveys\n• Provide appropriate first aid for:\n• unresponsive casualties\n• choking\n• external bleeding\n• shock\n• minor injuries\n• Undertake Secondary surveys\n• Provide appropriate first aid for:\n• bones\, muscles & joint injuries\n• head & spinal injuries\n• chest injuries\n• burns & scalds\n• eye injuries\n• poisoning\n• anaphylaxis\n• major illness \nDelegates will undertake theory and practical assessments throughout the duration of the course \nIt is strongly advised that delegates are physically capable of completing the practical assessment and have a minimum of Level 1 in English to complete the theory assessment \nSuggested First Aid numbers

SUMMARY:Mental Capacity CHAMPION - Application
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nCourse fee: HCPA Standard Member: Fully funded*\nAssociate/Network Member: £400+VAT | Non-member: £400+VAT  \nFour day programme open for applications\nDay 1: 04/06/2026 | Day 2: 11/06/2026 | Day 3: 18/06/2026 | Day 4: 25/06/2026\nAll sessions must be attended \nLead Excellence in Care with HCPA Champions\nEmpower your team by developing experienced colleagues to become HCPA Champions – individuals who influence positive\, high-quality change within their care services. \nWhat is an HCPA Champion?\nA Champion is a trained experienced care professional who drives improvements in care practices\, embeds governance\, and models excellence across the organisation.\nThe programmes equip Champions with the confidence\, tools\, and knowledge to influence change\, support colleagues\, and apply best practice consistently.\nChampions revalidate every two years by evidencing change through action plans\, case studies\, and continuing professional development. \nWhy have Champions?\nCare Managers cannot do everything\, they need support from trusted staff to ensure the service remains compliant with evolving national and local guidance. Champions mentor peers\, influence care delivery\, and maintain elevated care standards through ongoing governance and learning. \nWe suggest care providers have a Champion in each relevant topic area. To ensure quality and focus\, each individual may only be a Champion in up to two topic areas: \nThe Mental Capacity CHAMPION course will enable Care professionals to take on the role of Champion within their organisation for this topic. The Champion will have a clear understanding of local and national guidance and legislation for and will cascade this information amongst care teams\, improving the safety and quality of care for individuals. \nLearning Outcomes:\n• Define the role of a Mental Capacity Champion and explain how this role can promote lawful\, person-centred decision-making within the organisation.\n• Describe relevant local and national guidance\, legislation and statutory duties relating to the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and associated Codes of Practice.\n• Define the term “governance” and explain its importance in ensuring accountability and compliance with the MCA.\n• Apply the principles of SMART goal setting to improve MCA-related processes and decision-making in the workplace.\n• Differentiate between the various levels of support required to help individuals make decisions\, and apply this knowledge to practice in line with the statutory principles of the MCA.\n• Analyse how failures in assessment\, record keeping or communication can result in non-compliance with the MCA\, and identify strategies to prevent such errors.\n• Identify individual factors such as cognitive impairment\, mental health conditions or communication needs\, and analyse their impact on a person’s ability to make informed decisions.\n• Evaluate the actions required when there is doubt about a person’s mental capacity\, including conducting or arranging assessments and following best interest decision-making processes.\n• Assess the importance of recognising when a decision may require additional safeguards\, such as involvement of an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA)\, and evaluate when and how to escalate concerns.\n• Develop an approach for regular review of MCA-related policies\, procedures and care plans\, and design strategies to ensure staff support individuals to make their own decisions wherever possible. \nFind out more and apply here \nNote – This is an application\, not a booking. If approved\, you will be invited to book.
