On this forum update, candidates will learn about how current law/regulation in safeguarding underpins their risk assessment practice. The course will cover how to adopt a person centred rather than service focused approach to risk assessment.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Explain the role of risk assessment in safeguarding
  2. Explain legal duties in undertaking risk assessments including:
    1. Health and Safety at Work Act
    2. Mental Heath Act
    3. Mental Capacity Act
    4. Care Act
  3. Describe ways to balance tensions between risk and need
  4. Identify the consequences for the individual of a service focused approach to risk-assessment
  5. Describe the links between risk-taking and responsibility, empowerment and social inclusion
  6. Explain the process of developing a positive person-centred approach to risk assessment
  7. Describe ways of handling conflict when discussing and making decisions about risk

Requirements to attend:

Must have completed a HCPA Safeguarding Champion Pathway
