Course Description

This course covers understanding pressure sores and how to help prevent them, the main structures and functions of skin, pressure ulcers and common sites for pressure ulcers, and managing pressure ulcers.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will:

  • Identify patients/clients at risk of developing pressure ulcers
  • Describe the physiology of the skin and the process of wound healing
  • Describe the equipment and interventions, which can contribute to the prevention of pressure ulcers
  • Assess the degree of tissue damage

Requirements and Suitability

This course is designed for all residential and care home staff, managers or team leaders in the health and social care sector. The learners should be able to disseminate the learning to others in the workplace.
