Essential Skills – Moving and Handling CPD for Trainers Cohort 2

Course description

This three-day course is designed to empower fully trained Moving and Handling Trainers in creating up to date, enablement-centred lessons, including captivating refresher sessions. This will apply to trainers who have completed the full Moving and Handling train the trainer from an accredited provider. It will ensure trainers are fully up to date, allow them to learn new skills to pass on to staff and ensure they are following all the correct governance processes.

  • Day 1- Wednesday 6th October 10:00 – 16:00
  • Day 2- Wednesday 13th October 10:00 – 16:00
  • Day 3- Tuesday 19th October 10:00 – 16:00

 

Learning outcomes
Day 1
  • To have an understanding of understanding of an enabling approach
  • To have an awareness of the Connected Lives framework
  • To have an understanding of governance relating to M&A policies and procedures, including the role of the trainer
  • To have an understanding of auditing best practice, including carrying out training and competency checks
  • To feel confident delivering competence assessments with staff (12 monthly refresher training and 12 monthly Skills and competence checks, happening at 6-month intervals)
Day 2
  • To have an understanding of enhanced handling techniques including therapeutic handling
  • To have an understanding of outcomes and goals around movement
  • To have an understanding of the impact of lack of movement on the individual
Day 3
  • To have an understanding of how to make appropriate referrals and linking with health professionals
  • To have an understanding of the importance of reviewing equipment regularly with an aim to reducing equipment requirements where necessary
  • To have an understanding of when and how to take positive risks
  • To have an awareness of how and where double up care could be reduced:

> to   their knowledge, skills and problem-solving abilities, so that they are able offer high quality, valuable training to care staff in Hertfordshire

 

Requirements and expectations

Learners will be expected to be engaged in learning, participate in all activities including group discussions, share their own experiences of working in the care sector, whilst respecting confidentiality, and to share best practice examples.

Please note: we can only accept applications from in-house Trainers who have a full Moving & Handling Train the Trainer certificate. A full certificate is considered 3 days and over, but 5 days is considered best practice. You will need to share your full train the trainer certificate as well as any refresher certificates via email once you have booked. Confirmation from the website will only stand if adequate evidence of certificates is supplied, if not supplied places will be cancelled.  HCPA can signpost to companies who can complete  the full Moving and Handling train the trainer.
