Tier 2 Approaches to Dementia

The content of this course has a clear focus of what dementia is and goes into more detail explaining the varied types and what impact this may have on the individual. The course will detail the best practice approaches to supporting a person, seeing them and not the disability, as well as having more of a person centred approach to all daily living activities.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explore the myths to Dementia
- Do’s and don’ts of communication
- Evaluate the impact of Maslows in relation to best practice approaches to dementia care
- Evaluate Person centred environments and how these affect the person
- Promote best practice approaches
- Be able to look beyond the disability and see the ability
Requirements & Suitability
This course is suited to all service provisions who provide care and support for individuals who live with dementia, who would like further knowledge and guidance on providing excellent care.
This course is designed at a Level 2 for all staff who provide hands on care for individuals who live with dementia, who have completed the care certificate, and are looking for the next level in training. Therefore, this course is best suited for care practitioners and seniors.
Expectations of the learner is for learners to have already completed the care certificate and have a willingness to learn best practice approaches, be engaged in the learning and participate in all activities, and be willing to share ideas to promote learning and to engage with all learning materials provided.
